A/N: This is a story that takes place long before Disney Castle or the Keyblade Wars came. I hope you enjoy it.

Of Father & Son

Toon Town...home to many famous Toons, including the mouse that started it all, namely Mickey Mouse. He had friends, he was famous, and he had everything provided for his future, but alas...something was missing in his life.

Mickey Mouse had been wanting to be alone on this certain day. For you see, it was the anniversary of the day he left his family, his old home, and all that he once had.

Mickey was on the roof that evening, sighing sadly. He looked down at a picture of himself when he was just a small child along with another mouse, though he looked completely different from him. He was big, fat, and brown furred with red eyes. He only wore a tunic, cape, and crown.

"If only..." he spoke softly to himself.

"Mickey!" a voice called out.

He looked back, noticing a female mouse, his girlfriend, Minnie Mouse, had come to visit. He noticed her climbing the roof with a worried look on her face.

"Mickey, why are you up here?" she asked him, "You're gonna get hurt and Pluto would be upset if that happened."

Mickey looked seriously at her before speaking, "Oh, hi, Minnie. I was just..."

He looked at Minnie's concerned eyes deeply before turning away, continuing, "I was thinking about what I left behind that day."

The female mouse looked worried. Surely, this wasn't like Mickey before.

"Mickey, tell me. About that day you decided to stay with me..." she began, "What made you decide that?"

"First of all, because I care for you, Minnie." he grinned softly, "Secondly...it was because I wanted to prove him wrong..."

"Prove who wrong?"

"My dad..."

She then noticed the picture of the younger Mickey with the older brown mouse. She wondered who he was, and why he looked different from Mickey. Then, another thought came to her.

"This is my father, at least adopted father...Hiram, the Mouse King." Mickey told her.

"You mean...you're a prince?" she widened her eyes in surprise.

He gave out a small nod to her, confirming that he was a prince.

"I guess you must have wanted to prove you can love outside royalty." she concluded.

"It's not that, Minnie." he spoke, shaking his head, "I mean he would have love meeting you."

"Then tell me...tell me what had happened and why you came here?"

He then sighed, looking seriously up at the sky.

"You see...he wasn't really my biological father...just my adopted father. And it was like that ever since I was about six months old."

"What happened to your real parents?"

"Gone, I'm afraid..." he spoke with a tear in his eye.

"Oh my goodness..."

"Anyway, back then, his mom, my grandmother, was queen during the time. When my grandfather died, I wanted to comfort her, but she reacted badly, scratching me. I wasn't completely scarred physically, but mentally, I was. I stopped calling her 'Granny' since then. Anyway, the kingdom I lived in was crumbling badly."

"That was not good."

"You don't even wanna know what happened to those that tried overthrowing her. Well, anyway, when I was just about five, we were taken to a human kingdom, though you can pretty much guess that we were all mouse size, at least I was before I used a big-small potion. Anyway, we encountered someone there, but I'll get to that later. One day, my grandmother took us to get some Blue Cheesecake during the king's birthday."

"Blue Cheesecake? That sounds disgusting."

"And it was wrong to steal from humans like that. I argued with her about it, though it got interrupted when the guards came. We had to make our escape. Eventually, many mouse traps were placed down. My dad nearly got caught in one of them if I didn't got him out, but I was caught instead. For days, the mice and I were being awaited our execution while that fellow along with my dad and grandmother still remained.

"We were getting worried about what was coming to us. I looked at one of the humans who caught us, and manage to convince him not to let me and the other mice to get exterminated. Most of them went ahead while I looked for dad. I found him, but I notice that he wore a crown and his tail got bent in an accident, though he blames a human turned to a nutcracker for doing it.

"After a while, well, I decided to check Toon Town and found a big-small potion. I used it, no one reacted and then...I met you, Minnie. It was the happiest day back then. So that was my life, secretly becoming human sized, or at least your size to see you. On that fateful night, when I was going to tell my dad the good news, he found me using a human made potion. And he wasn't real happy about that.

"We both argued one another about what's right and wrong about humans, then he finally decided to show me the truth. He took me along with some other mice to see an exterminator's place, telling me that 'The world is our enemy. We must live our lives carefully. When all is said and done, we're all we've got.' Of course, I didn't believe it.

"Finally, when he tried talking to me out of it, I told him that 'Change is nature, and it starts when we decide.' He asked where I was heading. I only told him, 'With luck, forward.' And after that, I left him. From that point on, I never saw or heard from him ever again."

Minnie looked shocked, surprised, and saddened about what had happened to him in his old life. All this time, Mickey was a prince, only to disown his own title and the family he had left.

She held Mickey's hand, looking at him with a serious look on her eyes.

"Mickey?" she spoke finally, "I know families fight alot, and even though he sounded harsh and was like a stick in the mud, he was only trying to do what he thought was best for you. That's how a father cares for you."

Mickey smiled at Minnie's kind words before she gave him a kiss softly onto the lips.

"And I care about you too, Mickey." she finished.

Both mice smiled, looking at the sky together.

"You're right, Minnie." Mickey spoke, "I just know that one day, I will see my dad again."

And for a while, Mickey and Minnie just sat on the roof together, watching the stars. One day, Mickey would see his adopted father again. But only time will tell when that would be.
